Tips and Tricks
We'll share some tips and tricks to enhance your safety and fun.
Safety
Keep your mask on
If you choose to remember one thing from this page, it should be that you should keep your mask on, on the playing field and when instructed by your Marshal. Your eyes and ears are the only parts that are in danger of permanent damage. This is the reason why every field in South Africa will re-iterate this irrespective of your experience. Keeping your mask on will ensure that your eyes and ears are protected.
Listen to your Marshal
Your Marshal is experienced in the safety aspects of the sport. He will accompany your group through your entire experience and take you through everything in a step-by-step manner. For example, you Marshal will explain the safety devices on your marker and tell you when the game starts and ends. You are also more than welcome to ask your Marshal any questions.
Wear protective clothing
Protective clothing is included in your package as standard. Find comfortable loose fitting clothes and remember a neck guard.
Fun
Play in the mornings or afternoons
Due to the adrenaline, running, shouting, ducking and diving, paintball players generally tire quite quickly. You will get very hot in the protective clothing if you play while the sun is at its hottest. It is recommended that you choose a time slot in the morning from around 09:00 or in the afternoon from 15:00.
Take breaks
For the same reason as above, it is important to take breaks between the games. You Marshal will also encourage this. Although you are probably able to continue for extended periods of time, it is more fun to start each game a little refreshed and ready for extreme action. For every 10 minutes of play, anything from a 3 minutes break will help. Taking some fluids during breaks will keep you hydrated and keep the energy levels up.
Invite more players
The more players on the field, the more fun. You get more personality types bringing something different to the party. There is obviously way more happening on the field at any given time. You'll get the chance to shoot more and get protected by more players in your team. In fact, for very large groups, the is the added bonus of discounts.
Get enough paintballs
You don't want to keep needing to conserve on your shooting just because you have less paintballs than your opponents. In this case, they will almost certainly have more fun than you. If you do not need to worry about you "ammo", you will enjoy the game more. A great option here is to buy bulk - your group will get great discounts if you buy a box of 2000 paintballs.
Have a picnic or braai
You don't just have to arrive, play paintball and then leave. Why not have a braai or a picnic with the family/friends. This give you an awesome opportunity to share your experiences and has proven a great friendship builder.
